How do I get a Nevada license? |

|
The candidate must have a current license in another state
in order to transfer a license to Nevada. The license must
be in good standing and the applicant must prove they have
passed a NIC written exam. If the candidate has not taken a
NIC written exam in any state they must take the exam in
Nevada. |

How do I prove I am current and that I have passed the NIC
exam? |
|
|
The Candidate must contact the state where they are
currently licensed and request a letter of certification be
mailed to Nevada State Board showing active licensure and
completion of the NIC exam. If you have multiple state
licenses and have taken the NIC written exam in a different
state but are current in another state, you must have both
states mail a letter of certification letter showing
completion of the NIC written exam and proof of current
licensure. Not all states give the NIC exam, so you must
contact your particular State Boards to see if their state
exam is a certified NIC written exam.

What if I did not take the NIC exam in my state? |
|
|
If the candidate did not take a NIC written exam in any of
the states where they have held a license then they will be
required to take the NIC written exam in Nevada. The NIC
written exam is required by Nevada law in order to receive a
license in this state. NRS 644.310.

How do I get an application? |
|
|
If a candidate holds a current license in another state they
will need to fill out an “Application Request Form” and pay
a $15.00 fee (no cash or personal checks) we only accept
money orders, cashier’s checks , or credit cards in person.
The form is available on our website or you can fill it out
in person and pay at our office. If necessary we can mail
the Application Request Form to you.

What if I have training from another country, how do I get a
license in Nevada? |
|
|
The Candidate will need to provide the Nevada State Board
with the original documents along with a translation by the
District Court in Nevada if, documents are not in English.
The following documents are needed: |

Proof of training must be on letterhead/ stationary. It
must be signed and notarized or there must be an
original seal on the document. It must list out
the subjects that were taken and the number of hours for
each subject.

Proof of licensing such as current license and/or a
letter from the agency/authority if such licensing
exists.

Proof
of 4 years salon work experience is to be completed
by the owner or manager. It cannot be completed by
the candidate or a family member, It must show starting
and ending dates (mm/dd/yy), job title, phase of
experience or occupation held. The form must be properly
signed and notarized. There cannot be any alterations,
corrections or changes to the form or it will not be
acceptable.

If self-employed, you need to provide Federal tax forms
or equivalent, letter from tax person/bookkeeper
verifying type of work, starting and ending date, salon
name and address; on stationary, signed and notarized.

Proof of name changes such as marriage certification,
divorce decree or any legal court documents.

You must include a copy of one of the
following: copy of your US or Foreign birth certificate
(translated if other than English by a Board certified
translation provider), copy of your US or Foreign passport,
or copy of your Nevada voter registration card.
**If a Foreign birth certificate or passport is provided,
additional documentation, such as a Resident (Green) Card,
Work Visa, or other documentation from the US Dept. of State
or Immigration Service may be required to show your
eligibility to work in the United States.**

What if I don’t have a current license in any state? |
|
|
If the candidate doesn’t have a current license in any
state, then they must have their original school hours
mailed to Nevada from the State Board or school where the
hours were completed. The verification must breakdown the
hours and list all subjects taken and the number of hours
per subject. Validation can also come from a state level
governing agency, such as Board of Cosmetology,
Post-Secondary or the Board of Education. We will not accept
hours from the applicant, unless it’s from the state board
in a seal envelope.

What if I finished beauty school in another state but I
haven’t tested for a license. How do I test in Nevada to get
my license there instead? |
|
|
The candidate must have their original school hours mailed
to Nevada from the State Board or school where the hours
were completed. The verification must breakdown the hours
and list all subjects taken and the number of hours per
subject. Validation can also come from a state level
governing agency, such as Board of Cosmetology,
Post-Secondary or the Board of Education. Once hours are
approved and accepted, the candidate will need to pay $15
for an application. If they do not have the required number
of hours for Nevada we will issue a credit to a Nevada
school of your choice to complete the difference.

9. |
How do I renew my expired Nevada license? |
|
|
The licensee must contact the Nevada State Board for the
correct amount of late fees. A late fee of $20 for each
month past its expiry will accrue . After 4 years of not
renewing, the licensee is required to take an examination
consisting of the NIC Written and NIC Practical in order to
reinstate your license. If your Nevada license has been
expired for 4 years or longer and you have a current license
in another state under the same license type, then no exam
will be required to reinstate your license. However, a
letter of certification from your current state will be
required as proof of an active license status.

I have a license in Nevada but I’m moving to another state,
what do I need? |
|
|
Most states require the previous State Board to send a
letter of certification which will verify your license
status. In order for Nevada to mail your records to the
state where you’re applying, the licensee will need fill out
a “Certification Request Form” and pay a $10 fee (no cash or
personal checks) we only accept money orders, cashier’s
checks , or credit cards in person.. The licensee must
contact the State Board where they’re applying for
additional requirements on licensure in that state.

How do I open a school in Nevada? |
|
|
Contact the Nevada State Board to receive a law book and
school application which includes a checklist of items
needed to open a beauty school in Nevada. After submitting
their application you will be scheduled before the board for
approval. |
